Purpose of Project

•    to gain in-depth knowledge about one of the events of the Civil Rights Movement using web-based resources

•    to utilize collaborative work strategies with classmates

•    to develop sound research skills and note taking methods

•    to design a flag for the state of Georgia

 

Instructions

•    The project will consist of a three parts, the completion of a Google map, the development of a wiki page and a class PowerPoint  presentation.

•    Research will consist of notes taken on the topic and pictures found on-line.

•    After the research is completed, groups will collaboratively decide which pictures will be used.

•    Each partner will be responsible for writing a script to accompany the slides used in your PowerPoint presentation

 

Research

You should make use of the library and Internet to help you answer the basic who, what, when, where and why questions of your topic. With these facts you should be able to develop the story of your event and be able to tell that tale to your classmates. Use the note sheets provided to help you focus your research on the questions identified.

Citations are required for the sources of your research information as well as the sources for your pictures.

 

Google Maps

Your group should complete a Google map (http://maps.google.com/) identifying the location of key events in the Civil Rights Movement. The event should be summarized in the text boxes, noting the very basic who, what and when of the topic. Google Maps 1052 - Go to  Google Maps page

 

Wiki Page

Develop a wiki page that explains the details of your event. Use your groups wiki page to plan, research and outline your powerpoint presentations. Collaborate on the information from your notes that you will include on this page. Place the pictures you will use in your Power Point on the wiki as well. PowerPoint

Your PowerPoint slide show will be presented in class.  You will present the results of your research to your classmates and enlighten them with the facts and story of your event.

 

The Flag

At the completion of your research and our unit on the Civil Rights Movement, your group will design a flag for the state of Georgia and place that flag on your wiki page.
